Pilfering through the BF’s Picasa account, I came across some snaps from a trip I took with BFS and BFC. This was way back in Dec 2007 and looking back, somehow it amazes me that nearly three years have gone by and we never had another trip like that together again !! This trip was more cherished because , frankly, we never had a trip together even before this one!!

The planning took place feverishly, with BFC diligently hunting for locations and guest-houses. My involvement was rather bleak since I was preoccupied with other things (will come to that part later). We had all planned for leaves from our respective offices and though it was only a four-day trip, we planned as though we were going away for months 😀 !!

There was a time when I thought of cancelling the plan…..or atleast backing out. But since there were only 4 of us going (BFG couldn’t make it), me backing out would have meant that the BF would have backed out too (by virtue of being married to me 🙂 ) and that would have left the other two girls to fend for themselves. I’m sure they would have cancelled the plan too, but then , we had cancelled such plans a zillion times before (for similar such trivial reasons) and this time I didn’t want to be the party-pooper.

We had booked a Tavera (a good thing) since it was fun to be able to stretch our backs when we got tired of sitting upright on the long drive. By the way, we had planned to visit Raigad and Harihareshwar (with overnight stops at both places). It was nice long drive and though bumpy, we didn’t suffer any harm (except me, who was awfully queasy half-way through, but sniffing a lemon solved that problem pronto 😀 ).

Those were four beautiful days, spent in the company of good friends, with fun, laughter, food ,games (card games like “Old Maid” can be really fun if you have NOTHING else to do 😀 ) and believe it or not, fireworks 😀 !! Yup, BFC had some fireworks left over from Diwali and she had brought it along with her.

Sharing some snaps of those days :-

Diwali time in Dec 🙂

I can now look at these snaps fondly……and revel in friendships that have lasted over more than a decade 🙂 . But there was a time when these pictures brought me no joy.  When I would only look at them and fret as to why I didn’t cancel the trip as I’d earlier contemplated doing. There were a lot of ‘what ifs” and “if onlys” I hurled at the BF, who cowered in a corner, unsure how to deal with his partially lunatic wife, when all he had done was bide by her wishes!!

You see,the day after I returned from the trip, I miscarried. For the third time.

Till then, my pregnancy was a secret, no one at home had a clue and neither did BFS or BFC suspect anything. Though I blamed the trip for the miscarriage, it wasn’t entirely true. I had started spotting a couple of days before our travel date and though my doctor had warned me about taking complete bed rest, it was too late to cancel by then. It would have been unfair to my friends (who would have been considerate and understanding, if only I’d told them about it) and somewhere deep within, I knew that I’d already lost what I was trying to hold on to. Maybe that’s why I just wanted to get away from the daily grind and spend time away with friends, where their cheerful banter was enough to transport me out of my worries 🙂 . It didn’t mean that the miscarriage was easy to bear. Holding onto a hunch is far different than actually finding it to be true….and frankly, I didn’t handle matters too well.

It has been nearly three years now, I have two wonderful kids and those worries seem to belong to another era altogether 🙂 .

And now, when I look back at these snaps, I once again thank Allah for giving me friends who shared this time capsule with me, who were there to distract me from my worries, and provide me with beautiful memories to hold on to, like singing songs atop Raigad in the dark (there was no electricity and hardly any other people around) , having whatever meal came our way, chatting till late in the night, sharing ghost stories (which freaked out BFS 😀 ) , running on the beach, making a sand castle, sitting late on the sea-shore, hearing the waves crash against the rocks, and just wondering aloud where we would be years from then.

For now, I’m glad we’re still here , we are together and though we haven’t had a chance to go on a trip again (excluding our trip to Delhi for BFC’s wedding) , we do take out time once in a while to get together (I’m guilty of missing out a couple of times 😦 ) .

Isn’t that what friendships are all about??

Joke time!!

An email forward this morning :-

Lie Detector

John was a salesman’s delight when it came to any kind of unusual gimmick. His wife Marsha had long ago given up trying to get him to change.
One day John came home with another one of his unusual purchases.
It was a robot that John claimed was actually a lie detector.

It was about 5:30 that afternoon when Tommy, their 11 year old son,
returned home from school. Tommy was over 2 hours late.
“Where have you been? Why are you over 2 hours late getting home?” asked John.
“Several of us went to the library to work on an extra credit project,” said Tommy.
The robot then walked around the table and slapped Tommy, knocking him completely out of his chair.
“Son,” said John, “this robot is a lie detector, now tell us where you really were after school.”
“We went to Bobby’s house and watched a movie.” said Tommy.
“What did you watch?” asked Marsha.
“The Ten Commandments.” answered Tommy.
The robot went around to Tommy and once again slapped him, knocking him off his chair once more.
With his lip quivering, Tommy got up, sat down and said,
“I am sorry I lied. We really watched a tape called S** Queen.”
“I am ashamed of you son,” said John,”When I was your age, I never lied to my parents.”
The robot then walked around to John and delivered a whack that nearly knocked him out of his chair.
Marsha doubled over in laughter, almost in tears and said,“Boy, did you ever ask for that one! You can’t be too mad with Tommy. After all, he is your son!”
With that the robot immediately walked around to Marsha and knocked her out of her chair.
